In April 1985 REMAIN IN SILENCE released their first album SEVEN ROOMS as a C-60 cassette. With only 100 made it is an undiscoverable rarity today. Hosted in a monolith-like black box it featured a 5-song studio side and a live side. In December the same year, it was their 6-song mini-album MONUMENT, also a cassette only release, the one which consolidated their reputation as a cult band and widened their audience, leading Germany’s alternative cassette charts at the time. Upon its release, ‘Spex’ music magazine stated: ‘MONUMENT is absolutely worth the name. RIS is how New Order should actually sound like.’
The studio recordings of both SEVEN ROOMS and MONUMENT have remained eclipsed by the later release of the THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE RESISTANCE GOT LOST album, but these older recordings have a darker, gloomy spirit of its own that just cannot be compared to the later sound. Dead Wax Records is proud to bring you the opportunity of reviving the haunting, melancholic yet powerful vibrations emanating from the studio sessions of SEVEN ROOMS and MONUMENT. All tracks are taken from the original ¼” reel master tapes and have been carefully remastered by Nicolás Zúñiga for optimum vinyl performance. These extraordinary recordings will be presented in two limited, hand numbered editions; 100 copies on grey vinyl and 220 copies on black vinyl, housed in a heavy matt finish black/silver sleeve with printed inner sleeve and inserts, designed and adapted by David Lanna. The 100 grey vinyl copies will also include a download code for the digital release, featuring an incredible load of 18 bonus live and rehearsal tracks!!
The digital download version is available at: www.deadwaxrecords.bandcamp.com with the mentioned amount of corresponding bonus material that just cannot get squeezed into the vinyl; SEVEN ROOMS features 9 live tracks (including the complete live side of the original cassette) recorded in Hannover between April and August 1984 plus 2 early rehearsal demo tracks. MONUMENT features 7 live tracks recorded in Rodenberg 1985 and Hannover 1986. Unbeatable! Just go and check them out!
